Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most researched, most effective treatments in mental health — but how it’s delivered matters as much as the method. At Being Counseling in Houston, you work directly with Jagdeep Chadha, LPC. One clinician. Senior-level care. Unhurried sessions built around your life, not a rushed 45-minute slot.
What CBT actually is
CBT is a structured, evidence-based approach that targets the link between your thoughts, your feelings, and what you do. The premise is simple: it isn’t events themselves that drive anxiety and low mood — it’s the thoughts we attach to them. Repeated enough, a distorted thought starts to feel like a fact.
In CBT you learn to catch those thoughts in real time, test them against the evidence, and build steadier patterns in their place. It’s practical and skills-based. You leave sessions with tools you can actually use, not just insight you nod along to.
How I practice CBT
I don’t run CBT by the manual. I integrate classic cognitive and behavioral techniques with DBT skills, psychodynamic depth, and Eastern contemplative traditions — because real change needs more than a worksheet. My core principle runs through all of it: you cannot control your thoughts, but you can train your inner voice.
That’s the work. Not silencing the inner critic, but changing your relationship to it — so the pressure you carry stops running the show.
Who I work with
I work with high-functioning professionals in Houston — the people everyone relies on, who hold it together at work and at home until, quietly, they can’t. Anxiety. Burnout. The sense that you’re performing your life instead of living it. If you look fine on the outside and don’t feel fine underneath, that’s exactly the work I do.
About your therapist
I’m Jagdeep Chadha, LPC — Columbia-trained (Teachers College), with 17 years in higher education, over a decade of it at the Director and Executive Director level (most recently at the University of Houston), and nine years of clinical practice. I understand high-level professional pressure because I’ve lived it. Sessions are private, unhurried, and senior-level from the first minute — no waitlist shuffle, no trainee handoff.
CBT in Houston — in person or by telehealth
In-person sessions serve professionals in River Oaks, Memorial, the Heights, Bellaire, and West University, with secure telehealth available across Texas. Care is built around your schedule.
Common questions about CBT
How long does CBT take? CBT is often shorter-term than open-ended talk therapy because it’s goal-directed — but I don’t put a stopwatch on your progress. We set real goals and work at the pace the work requires.
Does CBT work for anxiety and depression? Yes. CBT has one of the strongest evidence bases of any psychotherapy for both, and for stress and burnout. The skills you build are the point — they keep working after we finish.
Do you take insurance? Being Counseling is a concierge, cash-pay practice, which is what makes the unhurried, senior-level format possible. Insurance-based CBT is available separately through Headway.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most research-supported approaches for both. It works by identifying the thought patterns driving your distress and testing them against reality, so you respond to situations instead of reacting automatically. Most clients notice a shift within the first several sessions.
It depends on what you're working on. Focused concerns often resolve in eight to sixteen sessions; deeper, longstanding patterns take longer. In our first few meetings I'll give you an honest sense of scope rather than an open-ended commitment.
Both. I see clients in person in Houston and by secure video across Texas. Telehealth is just as effective as in-person for CBT, and it removes the commute, which matters when you're already stretched thin.
Sessions are $300, private pay. This is a concierge practice, so you get longer, unrushed sessions and direct access between meetings. For clients who qualify, some insurance options are available through Headway.
