Mind, body, and soul carved into balanced stones — spiritual counseling in Houston

There’s a part of you that no résumé measures and no achievement satisfies. Call it the soul. When it’s neglected — buried under performance, noise, and doing — you feel it as a restlessness nothing external quiets. If you’ve tended everything but that, and still feel a hunger underneath, that’s the territory of spiritual counseling. At Being Counseling in Houston, you work directly with Jagdeep Chadha, LPC, integrating clinical psychotherapy with the world’s contemplative and spiritual traditions. One clinician. Unhurried sessions. Reverence for what is greater than us — not platitudes.

What spiritual counseling actually is

Spiritual counseling is care for the soul. It rests on a conviction the modern world often forgets: that you are more than a bundle of thoughts and behaviors, that there is something sacred in you, and that you are held within something greater than yourself — however your tradition names it. God. The Divine. Spirit. The Tao. The One consciousness expressing as the many.

It isn’t religious instruction, and it doesn’t ask you to adopt my beliefs. It works within yours. Whether you come as a Christian, a Sikh, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Jew, or a seeker outside any tradition, we start from what you hold sacred and go inward from there — toward the soul, and toward the source it longs to reconnect with.

Reconnecting with the soul

Much of our suffering is a kind of forgetting — losing contact with the deepest part of ourselves and with the greater reality that holds it. The ego builds a life of masks and achievements and then wonders why it feels hollow. The soul is what remains when those fall away.

The work of spiritual counseling is reconnection and purification: clearing away the ego-contractions — the pride, the fear, the grasping — that cloud the soul, so a truer self can come forward. Every tradition has language for this. Sikhi calls it moving from manmukh (ego-led) to gurmukh (turned toward the Divine). Christianity speaks of the purification of the heart. Yoga, of clearing what obscures the light within. We work within the language that is already sacred to you.

How I practice it

My approach integrates evidence-based clinical methods — CBT, DBT, psychodynamic depth — with the spiritual and contemplative traditions I’ve studied and practiced for decades: Zen, Daoism, yoga, Sikh thought, and the wisdom literature beneath them. My core principle bridges the clinical and the sacred: you cannot control your thoughts, but you can train your inner voice.

Underneath the anxious, grasping mind there is a witnessing awareness — the soul’s own quiet voice, and, many traditions would say, the place where the Divine meets us. Spiritual counseling trains your attention toward that voice, so what is greater than the ego can lead, and the noise stops running the show.

Who I work with

I work with high-functioning professionals in Houston who have achieved what they set out to achieve and found it didn’t answer the question. Successful and quietly disillusioned. Anxious beneath a composed surface. Sensing there is a deeper life — a spiritual life — they’ve been too busy to live. If part of you is hungry for meaning, for the sacred, for reconnection with your own soul, that’s exactly the work I do.

Spiritual counseling and mental health

These aren’t separate departments. Anxiety often carries a spiritual dimension — a fear beneath the fear, a soul cut off from its source. Burnout is frequently a crisis of meaning wearing the costume of exhaustion. Treating only the surface leaves the root untouched. Spiritual counseling holds both: the clinical and the sacred, the practical skill and the deeper why. You leave with tools and with a renewed sense of what — and Who — you are living for.

About your counselor

I’m Jagdeep Chadha, LPC — Columbia-trained (Teachers College), with over two decades in mental health and higher education, nine of them in clinical practice. I write about the meeting place of Eastern wisdom and modern psychotherapy, and I bring both a clinician’s rigor and a lifelong contemplative’s reverence to this work. I hold what is sacred to you as sacred. Sessions are private, unhurried, and senior-level from the first minute — no waitlist shuffle, no trainee handoff.

Spiritual counseling in Houston — in person or by telehealth

In-person sessions serve professionals in River Oaks, Memorial, the Heights, Bellaire, and West University, with secure telehealth available across Texas. Whether you search for a spiritual counselor near me or spiritual therapy in Houston, the care is built around your soul’s questions and your schedule.

Common questions about spiritual counseling

Do I have to share your beliefs? No. I work within your tradition and what you hold sacred — Christian, Sikh, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, or seeking. The soul is the common ground.

What if I’m not sure what I believe? That’s welcome too. Many people come precisely because the old certainties fell away and they’re searching for something real. We hold the questions together.

How is this different from regular therapy? It uses the same clinical foundation but doesn’t stop at symptom relief. We tend the soul — meaning, the sacred, and your reconnection with something greater than yourself.

Is spiritual counseling evidence-based? The clinical methods — CBT, DBT, psychodynamic work — are rigorously evidence-based. The spiritual traditions add depth and reverence to how they’re applied.
